This is a design for a kaleidoscape that would be built on the grounds of the Buffalo Creek Art Center in Gardnerville, Nevada. The total height of the structure will be about 18 1/2 feet and will sit on a roughly 12’ x 15’ footprint. The mirrors will create the impression of being inside a 48-sided space.
The cutout at the apex will be angled such that in the reflections it will appear to be an octahedron floating at the center of the virtual space. There will be one large window cutting across the widest face. This will reflect into 24 copies and will show up as the edges of a 20’ diameter rhombic dodecahedron floating in space and centered around the apex.
Occupants of this structure will have the feeling of being inside a 40’ diameter ball. There will be lights around the windows and apex so that the shapes created by the reflections will show up at night.
